Northland's Natural Food Company is owned by Denise and Lance Lamphier. The products we process are all grown on our farm, Wind and Tide Farms.

In 2018, Denise's family farm in the Upper Peninsula went up for sale. This farm has been in our family for 3 generations and we wondered how we could keep it in our family.

We looked at crops that could grow in a short time frame and industrial hemp and oats became obvious choices. Industrial hemp became legal to grow in the 2018 farm bill, and to our surprise, many grow trials were taking place in the UP. We also found that hemp hearts were being used in many high protein food bars.
In 2020, we began to buy some of our family farm and Denise now became the 4th generation to farm this land. Amidst the boom of CBD, we decided to "go against the grain" and grow hemp as a food grain. We also wanted to make sure all of our grain was grown as natural as possible and chemical free.

It grew very well and was quite a learning year! We learned a lot about growing a crop that hadn't been legal to grow in the US in 100 years! In 2021 we added oats to our fields.
There were not any processing facilities for rolled oats or hemp grain in Michigan so we purchased a building in Northland and began to set up our micro-batch food processing facility, Northland's Natural Food Company.

As of 2024, we are the only farm in Michigan licensed to grow hemp as food for human consumption, and the only processor in Michigan licensed for rolled oats and hemp hearts for human consumption.

*Hemp Hearts, Hemp Oil (not CBD oil), and Hemp Seeds are FDA approved for human consumption and do not contain THC*
